No Child Left Behind Committee

ALGONA COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Agenda Items

Agenda for 3/9/11:

1. Revisit the calendar issues: Either calendar #2 or start school the 22nd 23rd, or 24th

2. Conferences--should they be moved? Should the purpose be better established?

The following statements respond to questions 1 & 2: Brad shared some of the conflicts when moving conferences (the reason why they are where they are). What is the issue: when we have conferences, when we have the comp day, when we have the TQ day? The main issues brought to the table were the times when conferences were held. Some would like to move the work day from the end of the year to the end of the semester. After some discussion, the NCLB team has decided to move the end of the year work day to Jan. 16th for the high school and middle school and Jan 3rd for the elementary (the pd day for hs/ms Jan 3rd and workday Jan 16th; the pd day for elem. Jan 16th and work day on Jan 3rd).

Conferences: grades 9-12 would like to move the dates to better accommodate student needs (August 29, Sept 27 & 29; Feb 20, April 2nd parent meetings). No comp day with week of conferences. Spring comp day on March 23rd; fall is November 11th.
Conferences: elementary would like to move the dates up a week in the spring (move to March 19th; have them Monday (19) and Tuesday (20) and would like comp day to stay with the week on the 23rd). Fall conferences would be November 7th and 8th and comp day 11th. They would like a pre-conference day at the beginning of the year.
Conferences: Middle school would like a pre-conference time with 5th-6th graders on August 22nd. Middle school teachers do not want a change in conference times. Some MS teachers suggested that conferences fall right around mid-term grades because there is still time for kids to improve, catch up, etc. No concerns with not having comp day the same week as conferences (nov 7th or 8th and August 22nd; March 19 )
PD days shift to 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month.

3. RTI (Response to Intervention)--

What do we have in place that works? Co-teaching, assistive technology

What do we have in place that does not work?

Discussion of article: groups shared what each school in the article did to help the student (traditional, RTI, RTI2)
